Album Description In This Moment member, Howorth, describes the concept behind their 2008 album: 'The basic idea behind calling our new album The Dream is that inside dreams anything can happen, all the things that seem impossible or unreachable in the `real world' become a reality in your dreams. We've always been a band that believes in the power of dreams and that believing is creating. We wanted to make a record that you can lay down with, shut off the lights and have a total outerbody experience. We also wanted the record to be like a rollercoaster ride with explosive highs, beautiful lows and everything in between. Maria took her vocals to the next level and explored all the possibilities. Everyone will be surprised by all the melody, passion and strength she brings to the record.'

No sophomore jinx here January 3, 2009 In 2007 on a whim, I discovered In This Moment with their first full length album BEAUTIFUL TRAGEDY. I immediately loved the band's brand of metal which was both aggressive and melodies. THE DREAM is the band's follow up to BEAUTIFUL TRAGEDY. Judging by other reviews the album is either a hit or miss. I personally love THE DREAM. I love the more melodic approach the band took for the new album. While I did enjoy Maria's vocals on the previous album which switched back and forth from coarse to clean, I am glad to see that Maria stuck to one particular style of singing. I really enjoyed her cleaner vocals although she does stray into the death metal like growl that fans have come to know and love on THE DREAM. The musicianship on THE DREAM is as tight as ever. Maria's bandmates Chris, Blake, Jesse, and Jeff all function as a cohesive unit together with no one sounding out of place. The one song on the entire album that truly stood out with me is the beautiful piano ballad "Into the Light". The melodies and Maria's lyrics just fit perfectly together. I liked how the song gave the listener a breather from the heavier tracks. The rest of the album is fantastic. The songs are melodic yet aggressive without sounding like cheesy hair metal from the '80s. In This Moment solidified me as a huge fan of the band with THE DREAM. I can hardly wait to hear more music from this talented California band.
What a great discovery! December 27, 2008 I stumbled upon this album on Yahoo Launch. Loved the song I heard so I came here to research it. OMG!! I LOVE this album. It's a great mix of ballads, rock and hard core rock. The lead singer has an AWESOME voice and the musicians are extremely talented. I can't get enough of this album. The other albums are more hard core rock. This one was a perfect mix of all their styles.
Change from Beautiful Tragedy, but not bad December 15, 2008 This is a good sophmore album for In This Moment. It defenitely strays away from the style on their first album. There is more of mainstream mix here. But the songs are still heartfelt. The screaming is almost all gone. Almost, there's a good mix here. I look forward to seeing them live again.
Thoroughly disappointing December 10, 2008 When I first found In this moment they had just released Beautiful Tragedy, and the well orchestrated mix of clean and well done gutteral vocals coming from their singer immediately caught my attention. They had a hardcore edge and it worked very well for them. Now after the release of "The Dream" they have lost that edge and mainstreamed their music. It is not a bad album by any means, on its own it is entertaining. The problem is they left behind everything that loved about them. If you are fan of In This Moment's older work then "The Dream" is worth a listen but don't get your hopes too high.
WHY?! December 3, 2008 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
Why do bands insist on changing the very thing that made them famous? Why would you take a winning new sound and dull it down to mainstream radio garbage? The band and Maria have a great sound. However this album has zero intensity that we fell in love with.
I am very saddened by this new "direction".
