Editorial Reviews:

Product Description
What makes a band truly remarkable? Insightful lyrics? Memorable melodies? Blow-your mind live performances? The truth is that it takes all of those things along with a boundless enthusiasm, an infectious energy and a supreme devotion to the fans. With this rare combination, a band may ascend past "good," - and reach sublime. Drawing on the hardships and joys of their own lives and a musical history ranging from old world Celtic to modern day punk rock, the seven members of Flogging Molly do just that, and they do it with a charm and an ease that makes them one of the most revered bands performing today. Flogging Molly isn't a mere band, they're a seven member nuclear family. They are as devoted to one another as they are to the music they create. It's no wonder their extended family - the legion of loyal Flogging Molly fans - keeps growing every day.

5 out of 5 stars Well Balanced, Better with Every Listen   November 25, 2008
This is my first FM album and it won't me my last. I listen to this cd again and again and seem to discover a new favorite song for the album each time. The band does a great job blending catchy Irish rythms with powerful vocals in a package with mainstream appeal. The lead singer displays a good range of volume, letting you know when you should be stomping your feet or just reflecting. You can see this in the song Float, as he crescendos with the lyrics "A Ripe Old Age! That's what I am!"

The cd is a good listen. It has a variety of songs and tempos, but I definitely see that rocking is in FMs roots. If you've heard Float, be aware that that is their lighter side. Take a listen to Requiem for a Dying Song or Punch Drunk Grinning Soul to get an idea what the album is like. If you like those, this album is for you.

5 out of 5 stars Every bit as good as the ol' ones:   November 11, 2008
Not a o' a letdown for those of you worried fans out there. Enjoy the latest (though admittedly not greatest)release from the almighty Molly. Perhaps the swagger is a bit lacking, but you can't expect the piss an' vinegar to last forever. A nice change I say. Cheers.

5 out of 5 stars Take a second listen   November 4, 2008
My initial reaction to this album was a touch of disappointment. This is certainly not the same Flogging Molly of yesteryear. They are more mature, their lyrics are crafted more carefully, and the melody is developed and sophisticated. Yet, for some reason it did not strike me instantly as the previous albums have. So why the 5 stars? Recently, I had some of those life changing experiences in my life that we all have, and this album happened to pop up in my random play. I really gave it a listen then. Without preconceived notion or expectation. I listened to it for what it was. And i fell in Love. This album really hits home, when you have that sort of moment of epiphany. The thoughtful lyrics, and thought invoking melody, are a beautiful combination. This is not a drinking album, as the previous may have been. This is an album, however, that will impact you in some way.. will make you think in some way... Will invoke emotion, be it joy, sadness, longing, or comfort. This album will envelope you, if you just give it a chance.

That is what music should do, is it not?

3 out of 5 stars Treading water, drinking watered down whiskey...   October 28, 2008

Dave King is an erudite and obviously intelligent soul but he's trying far too hard to squeeze his education into the good time Oirish punk rock Flogging Molly produce.

He takes well worn cliches, gives them a twist and fails. Adding a spin or trying to create new ones just drags the whole Flogging Molly experience down. It's something that has hampered every Molly album, just as you're getting into it a lyric jars and you're left thinking ??? when all you want is simple heartfelt passion.

That said, if you like their previous stuff you'll enjoy this, it's by no means a bad album but don't expect a 'Black Friday Rule' or 'Rebels of the Sacred Heart' or even a 'Tobacco Island'. It's a pale shadow compared to anything from 'Drunken Lullabies' or 'Swagger'.

I love Flogging Molly but Dave King has to stop trying; Drink yer Guinness, down yr whiskey and don't start recording the next Molly album until you can't stand up/yr mind's a blank... Because what Flogging Molly need is a dunderheaded thug roaring "My heart belongs to Ireland" or "I'll never hurt you Molly, my love. Not again" with that wry Shane MacGowen glance askance that tells us all that, soon as the little woman's put out, she'll feel the back of my hand! (And she, bless her, will love her man no matter what.) I'm talking passion; rightly or wrongly.

They don't need another album of borrowed cliches.

5 out of 5 stars Floats right up there   October 11, 2008
In this album FM has reached musical high with "tight instrumentals" and good lyrics that escape the stereo type of Irish music or drinking music. Dave still has the ability to deliver heartfelt meaning-full lyrics. I would not label their music as punk, but as some sort of rock with flavor, comparable to a cold pint o' Guinness. Which I would drink over the mainstream "Bud" rock. Like Amazon said, any band that is great live and in studio, transcends today's popular rock bands which includes those who go for the glammy emo/goth look, you all know the ones I'm talking about. No "traditional rock lyrics" here. This band has it and it shows with this album. FM FTW
