Album Description
This 2008 collection of anthems and stories may very well be the Tosser's greatest accomplishment. On A Fine Spring Evening is sure to get crowds everywhere riled up for another good old time on the town. The record tells the story of the band from day one up to the present day, making this a career-defining record and the perfect cocktail for the mainstream to take notice. With songs like 'Whiskey Makes Me Crazy' and 'Katie At The Races,' you can be sure that they are keeping up with their tradition of classic Celtic inspired Punk anthems. For the last 10 plus years, this Chicago Celtic rock band has done it all.

 A second-tier Tossers album December 16, 2008
This isn't as good as Valley of the Shadow of Death or Agony. I peg it at four stars, about the same as Purgatory. It has a number of a songs that fall into the "generic Tosser song" category.
It has two instrumentals, the first of which (221B...) really rocks. Fans of The Sheep in the Boots will dig it. The other instrumental is just OK. There's also a great instrumental bit at the end Unfamous Paula Spencer, kinda like the way Flogging Molly closes Black Friday Rule. What Becca does here, though, is much more evocative.
Their rendition of Rocky Road to Dublin is surprisingly restrained. I was expecting a real rocker when I saw that on the track list, but I'm appreciating the sparse treatment they give it here. It wouldn't be out of place with their early stuff on Communication and Conviction.
If you're familiar with live Teehan's on Gloatin' & Showboatin', check out the very cool treatment they give to the opening here on the album version.
The single best part of this album: the "Chicago..." refrain at the end of A Fine Lass You Are. That brought the house down at their show outside Chicago this past weekend. They actually played most (if not all) of this album, which improved my opinion of most of it. The only exception was Hunger Strike/Harmony. Boring. I usually skip it on the CD, and I begrudged the stage time it stole. We went out to smoke.
As long as I'm talking up the show, here were some surprises:
* Dirty Old Town.
* The closed the pre-encore portion of the show with Silent Night in all sincerity. Great.
* T was puking on the stage between drinks. It's sad if he's going down the Shane MacGowan road.
Anyway, it's a good record, but not their best. If you already like The Tossers, you'll like this. If you're just discovering them, I'd start with Valley of the Shadow of Death, Agony, or Gloatin' & Showboatin' instead.

I'm a big fan of The Tossers, but I've been a little concerned by their move to Victory Records, especially after their lack-luster The Valley of the Shadow of Death. With Agony, they returned with shorter, more rocking songs, and that continues with this release.
The Tossers come back to old stand-by topics: bars, drinking, fighting, and loves lost. The songs are short and rock with only one ballad (thankfully better than any of the ballads from the previous two albums). The Tossers are sounding more like The Pogues than they have in a while and it's welcome.

This is the best CD yet from a band that has never produced a bad CD. There are so many great songs that I can not list a favorite. Flogging Molly? Please spare me....The Tossers are the best band by far in the Celtic Punk/Rock genre

The Tossers have outdone themselves with this release!There isn't one weak track on the whole CD.Easily one of their best!It is shorter than some of their other releases but overall it is tighter and feels like just the right length.With this CD they have cemented themselves as the spiritual successors to The Pogues!!
