 Works beautifully... November 10, 2008
I found this beautiful birdfeeder at Target. I've had it up for a week. It took the birds about two days to discover it, but it is definitely a hit with them and with our family. The birds climb in and it's like having a pet bird (temporarily) while they hop around the exterior and into the little holes... then it's back to nature after eating. I haven't had ANY problems with the squirrels, but I'll post back if I do. For now I'm giving this five stars for ease of use (as long as you screw the top on tightly, everything stays together just fine), attractiveness, and ability to view the birds while they're eating.

I am not pleased with this feeder at all. The first day I had it squirrels knocked it down and it broke. I found it very hard to put it back together. I was refilling it the other day and it all came apart. Next time i try to fill it, I'll probably just throw it away. Hopefully, I won't "catch" a squirrel before then, trapped inside.

I did not buy my Brookfield Cage Bird Feeder on Amazon but from Petsmart. It is not squirrel proof. Within one day of hanging the feeder, I had a trapped squirrel. It was extremely difficult to free the squirrel, to not injure it any further as it was trapped and could not move its hind legs, or to keep from getting bit. If the squirrel had not been found it would have been dead within the hour in our Georgia heat.
The Hayes Company was very heartless when I called them, they will be receiving a letter of complaint. I am returning the product to Petsmart for a full refund and telling them of its dangers. I have no fear that this particular feeder will wind up back on the shelf because it is broken (thankfully) beyond repair.
Please do not purchase this feeder. I have nothing against squirrels. I provide food for them at a safe feeding station. I do however provide a more expensive feed for my small songbirds and have had success with other squirrel-proof feeders.

This bird feeder is not squirrel proof, it is a squrrel trap. Any squirrel who is unfortunate enough to climb into this bird feeder can not get out without help and will cut it's self up trying. I bought one for my mother she hung it up yesterday and looked out this morning and discovered a squirrel in her squirrel proof bird feeder. It was extreemly hard to remove the squirrel whose hips were scraped up and hung inside the feeder.
